Building Your Project Plan

Building Your Project Plan

Phase 3
Why Clear Structure Drives Better Websites

At inputidea, we don’t jump into design or development without a roadmap. Once the brand palette is aligned, the next step in our process is strategic: we build a Project Plan and Roadmap—a detailed framework that ensures your site launches with confidence, speed, and purpose.

This isn’t just task management—it’s the backbone of your website’s success.

From Vision to Execution

Every project begins with a conversation about features, goals, and timing. We ask the important questions:

  • What features matter most to your business?
  • Who needs access to the site?
  • What platforms and integrations are required?
  • Are there legal, accessibility, or security considerations?

From these inputs, we shape your Project Plan—outlining everything from the front-end experience to plugin recommendations, custom post types, user permissions, and backend settings. This plan keeps all stakeholders aligned, provides transparency, and ensures that no detail is overlooked.

What Our Planning Phase Covers

Using a structured project template, we break the work into four major categories:

1. Planning

This is where we define your site’s technical foundation: frontend features, backend structure, and core plugin requirements. We document what success looks like and create alignment before any development begins.

2. Site Structure & Initial Setup

We configure everything from your staging environment to admin defaults. This includes:

  • Creating a clean admin experience
  • Securing the dev environment
  • Configuring media handling and email
  • Setting up a clear “Coming Soon” page

These aren’t just checkboxes—they’re essential for long-term maintainability and security.

3. Site Build / Development

Here’s where the bones of your site take shape. Our team builds out the global theme structure (headers, footers, single pages, search, etc.) and sets up critical pages like privacy policies and terms. If you have custom page types or post types, this is where they’re structured into the WordPress backend in a logical, scalable way.

4. Audit & Review

Before handing off for final review, we run a quality check across key categories:

  • Page structure validation
  • Mobile and tablet responsiveness
  • Light SEO implementation
  • Accessibility checks (when applicable)

This ensures your site looks great, functions smoothly, and is prepared for launch.

Why Structure Saves Time (and Sanity)

When projects lack a roadmap, timelines stretch, features shift, and decisions get made on the fly. But when everyone knows what’s next, what’s needed, and what’s already done? You get faster turnarounds, better feedback, and a smoother client experience.

Clients are invited into this process using our preferred stack of tools—Boards for tasks, Dropbox Paper for documentation, and SMS, Google Chat or email for feedback loops. You’ll always know what’s in progress and what’s needed from you.

Planning Builds Trust

The goal of our planning phase isn’t just structure—it’s trust. You’ll never wonder “what’s happening?” or “what’s next?” Our roadmap creates shared visibility, reduces revision cycles, and aligns the full team around your site’s objectives, timeline, and deliverables.

We’d love to walk you through our proven process for building clean, scalable websites—fast.
